Event description

The Deep Depression over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal has moved westwards and now lies over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining west-central Bay (18.1°N, 84.8°E). It was located at 06 AM today (23 September 2026) about 900 km southwest of Chattogram, 880 km southwest of Cox's Bazar, 720 km south-southwest of Mongla and 750 km south-southwest of Payra seaport. It is likely to move further west-northwestwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh - south Odisha coast tonight (23 September 2026). Under its influence, Maritime Ports, North Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh may experience squally weather. Maximum sustained wind speed within 48 km of the deep depression center is about 50 km/h, rising to 60 km/h in gusts or squalls. Sea is rough near the deep depression center.

Instructions

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal number three (3). All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
