Event description

The well-marked low over west-central and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal has moved west-northwestwards and intensified into a Depression over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal (17.8°N, 87.7°E). It was located at 09 PM today (21 September 2026) about 670 km southwest of Chattogram, 625 km southwest of Cox's Bazar, 660 km south-southwest of Mongla and 550 km south-southwest of Payra seaport. It is likely to move further west-northwestwards and intensify. Under its influence, Maritime Ports, North Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh may experience squally weather. Maximum sustained wind speed within 44 km of the depression center is about 40 km/h, rising to 50 km/h in gusts or squalls. Sea is rough near the depression center.

Instructions

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal number three (3). All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
